چکیده

University of Texas San Antonio, TX 78285 The dendritic trees of cortical pyramidal neurons seem ideally suited to perfonn local processing on inputs. To explore some of the implications of this complexity for the computational power of neurons, we simulated a realistic biophysical model of a hippocampal pyramidal cell in which a "cold spot"-a high density patch of inhibitory Ca-dependent K channels and a colocalized patch of Ca channels-was present at a dendritic branch point. The cold spot induced a non monotonic relationship between the strength of the synaptic input and the probability of neuronal fIring. This effect could also be interpreted as an analog stochastic XOR.

Effect of Trigonelline on Dendritic Morphology in the Hippocampus and Prefrontal Cortex in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus causes adverse changes in the neurological morphology of the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex of the brain by increasing oxidative stress. Trigonelline has antihyperglycemic effects and can inhibit oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of trigonelline on dendritic changes in hippocampal and prefrontal cortex neurons in dia...

Modeling Active Dendritic Processes in Pyramidal Neurons

The role of active ion channels in dendritic function is among the most interesting and complex aspects of information processing in single neurons While the behavior of isolated channels or the passive electrical properties of dendrites can be studied in isolation, the interaction of multiple nonlinear ionic currents within a geometrically complex structure is described by equations that canno...

Active summation of excitatory postsynaptic potentials in hippocampal CA3 pyramidal neurons.

The manner in which the thousands of synaptic inputs received by a pyramidal neuron are summed is critical both to our understanding of the computations that may be performed by single neurons and of the codes used by neurons to transmit information. Recent work on pyramidal cell dendrites has shown that subthreshold synaptic inputs are modulated by voltage-dependent channels, raising the possi...
